I Love the Natchez Trace

Yesterday, Rachel & I left to pick up David in Florence, AL. What a tough day, I had about 5 1/2 hours sleep, worked 5 hours, packed lunch & snacks & drove over 500 miles. David drove home, we always love the Natchez Trace because it is just so full of nature. So far, over the years, we have seen turkeys, deer, a mother bobcat with a baby, box turtles, hornets nest, lots of hawks, snakes & more turkeys! Today, around 6 a.m. we spotted a skunk! That was so cool, I rarely even smell skunk in the south, we always had them in Indiana. I hate to admit this, but I never really have been disgusted from their smell, except the time my brother's dog was sprayed, then it made your eyes water even after a tomato juice bath. Back to the trace, we are driving along & all I see is this tiny head sticky out of the tall grass, I yelled out that it might have been a fox, David known to fly home, actually turned around this time. I only can recall him turning around another time when I spotted the hornets nest, high in a tree by a creek. We wanted to knock it down & bring it home, it was in the winter. Then laughed, thinking about how we would react when the heater warmed up the hibernating hornets!! Anyway, we turned around and it was a young coyote. He actually came closer to us when David was digging through his luggage for the camera. How cool is that?!! David crossed the road to get a picture and he scooted back a bit, then we went to feed him some of Sammy's dog food, he looked really skinny, and he went into the woods but stopped and watched us....hope he enjoyed his meal!! We sure did enjoy watching him.Posted by Picasa
